Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w
w is the final’s weight as a decimal (for example 0.25 for 25%). Equivalent to treating completed work as weight (100 − final%) and remaining as final%.

How do you calculate the final exam score needed?
Let w be the final’s weight as a fraction of the course (30% → 0.30). Then:
needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w
Example: current 85%, final worth 40%, target 90% → (90 − 85×0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 97.5% on the final.
What should I enter as current grade?
Your grade on completed work only, as if the final were not yet included. If your portal already folds in a blank final as zero, recalculate without that zero first (use the weighted grade tool).
What if I need more than 100%?
That target is not possible with this final weight alone. Lower the target, or check whether extra credit or other remaining categories exist.
