  1. 1

    List each category

Homework, quizzes, midterm, project, and so on, with the percent score you have so far.

Why weight categories

Syllabi rarely treat every assignment equally. Match the weights your instructor published.

Syllabus math

Grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weight). The same weighted average most LMS gradebooks use.

Partial courses

Enter only graded categories. Weights normalize over what you include.

Same engine as class grade

This tool and the [class grade calculator](/tools/class-grade-calculator) share the same formula; this page is named for weighted-syllabus searches.

When to use weighted grades

Category-based syllabi

When homework is 20%, labs 30%, and exams 50%.

Midterm planning

See how the remaining final weight must score to hit a letter.

Weighted grade formula

Grade = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weight

Score is a percentage (0–100). Weight is the syllabus share for that category.

Frequently asked questions

How does a weighted grade calculator work?

Multiply each category score by its weight, add the products, divide by the sum of weights.

Example: homework 90 at 25% and exam 80 at 75% → (90×25 + 80×75) ÷ 100 = 82.5%.

Do weights need to add to 100%?

No. Enter weights as written. The calculator divides by the total of the rows you filled in.

How do I find what I need on the final?

Enter your current categories, then set target grade and remaining weight (the final’s share). Or use the dedicated final exam grade calculator.

What letter scale do you use?

A common US plus/minus scale with 4.0 GPA points. Your school may differ; trust the percentage first.

Are my grades stored?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser.
