# How to add a File upload question

File upload lets people attach a file. Use it for a resume, a photo, or a PDF.

1. ADD IT

In Build, click Add a question, then choose File upload. See How to add
questions [https://formms.help.center/article/1016-how-to-add-questions].

2. ON THE FORM

The field is on the canvas. Question settings opens so you can write the prompt,
add hint text, and mark it required.

3. WHAT IT IS FOR

People choose a file from their device. Typical uses: job applications and
anything that needs a document.

4. EDIT AND REQUIRE

Click the field to change the wording. Hover it to duplicate or delete. Required
questions show a red asterisk. Optional ones do not.

Payments and signatures are not in the picker. Skip those if the AI draft
mentions them.

5. ASK AI

In create a form with AI
[https://formms.help.center/article/1013-how-to-create-a-form-with-ai], describe
the form and name this type. On a form you already have, open Chat to Edit (the
pencil next to Add a question) and ask in a sentence.

Example:

> Add a file upload for a PDF resume.

If the reply mentions payments or signatures, skip those. File upload is the
attachment type.

6. READ THE DRAFT

The helper replies with a Draft card. Each field shows its type. Check that File
upload is in the list. Click Create this form when you want it. Close if you
were only trying a prompt. That does not add a form.
