# How to add a Dropdown question

Dropdown is pick one, in a compact list. Use it when you have many options and
do not want a long row of radios.

1. ADD IT

In Build, click Add a question, then choose Dropdown. See How to add questions
[https://formms.help.center/article/1016-how-to-add-questions].

2. ON THE FORM

The question is on the canvas with starter options. Question settings opens so
you can write the prompt, rename options, and add more.

3. WHAT IT IS FOR

People open the list and choose one item. Typical uses: country, location, or a
long set of named choices.

4. EDIT AND REQUIRE

Click the field to change the wording. Hover it to duplicate or delete. Required
questions show a red asterisk. Optional ones do not.

Use Single choice when a few options should stay visible on the page.

5. ASK AI

In create a form with AI
[https://formms.help.center/article/1013-how-to-create-a-form-with-ai], describe
the form and name this type. On a form you already have, open Chat to Edit (the
pencil next to Add a question) and ask in a sentence.

Example:

> Add a dropdown for which site they will visit, with five office names.

6. READ THE DRAFT

The helper replies with a Draft card. Each field shows its type. Check that
Dropdown is in the list. Click Create this form when you want it. Close if you
were only trying a prompt. That does not add a form.
