# How to add a Number question

Number is any numeric value: age, years of experience, a budget, and similar.

1. ADD IT

In Build, click Add a question, then choose Number. See How to add questions
[https://formms.help.center/article/1016-how-to-add-questions].

2. ON THE FORM

The field is on the canvas. Question settings opens so you can write the prompt,
add hint text, and mark it required.

3. WHAT IT IS FOR

People type a number. It is not the same as Quantity, which is a count with
minus and plus.

4. EDIT AND REQUIRE

Click the field to change the wording. Hover it to duplicate or delete. Required
questions show a red asterisk. Optional ones do not.

Pick Quantity when you want a headcount or how many items. Pick Number for
measurements and amounts.

5. ASK AI

In create a form with AI
[https://formms.help.center/article/1013-how-to-create-a-form-with-ai], describe
the form and name this type. On a form you already have, open Chat to Edit (the
pencil next to Add a question) and ask in a sentence.

Example:

> Add a number question for years of experience.

6. READ THE DRAFT

The helper replies with a Draft card. Each field shows its type. Check that
Number is in the list. Click Create this form when you want it. Close if you
were only trying a prompt. That does not add a form.
