# How to add an Email question

Email collects a validated email address. Use it when you need to send a
confirmation or follow up.

1. ADD IT

In Build, click Add a question, then choose Email. See How to add questions
[https://formms.help.center/article/1016-how-to-add-questions].

2. ON THE FORM

The field is on the canvas. Question settings opens so you can write the prompt,
add hint text, and mark it required.

3. WHAT IT IS FOR

People type an email. Formms checks that it looks like an address.

4. EDIT AND REQUIRE

Click the field to change the wording. Hover it to duplicate or delete. Required
questions show a red asterisk. Optional ones do not.

People who fill the form never need a Formms account. Email on the form is only
so you can reach them.

5. ASK AI

In create a form with AI
[https://formms.help.center/article/1013-how-to-create-a-form-with-ai], describe
the form and name this type. On a form you already have, open Chat to Edit (the
pencil next to Add a question) and ask in a sentence.

Example:

> Add an email question so I can send a confirmation.

6. READ THE DRAFT

The helper replies with a Draft card. Each field shows its type. Check that
Email is in the list. Click Create this form when you want it. Close if you were
only trying a prompt. That does not add a form.
