# How to change form settings

Each form has its own settings behind the gear, next to Build / Share /
Responses. They do not change your account
[https://formms.help.center/article/1022-how-to-change-account-settings]. The
sidebar has three sections: Responses, Messages, and Notifications.

RESPONSES

Accept responses is the master switch. Leave it on while you want people to
submit. Turn it off and the form is closed: respondents see the closed message
instead of the questions.

Close on a date shuts the form automatically at that datetime. Limit responses
is an optional cap. Leave it empty for No limit. If the cap is reached, people
see the closed message.

The free plan does not cap how many responses you can collect. Only fill in a
limit if you want one.

MESSAGES

Here you edit the submit button label, the thank you line after someone submits,
and the closed line for when the form is not accepting answers. Full
walkthrough: Thank you and closed messages

NOTIFICATIONS

Email me on new responses is per form. It is separate from the account-wide
Email notifications switch under Account settings
[https://formms.help.center/article/1022-how-to-change-account-settings]. Turn
on the switch you want. One can be on while the other is off.

Push alerts still come through the iPhone and Android apps when someone submits.
